"That's SO Pumpkin Spice Latte"

Nothing too exciting but last weekend I decided to get a pumpkin to carve since it’s been years since I’ve carved one.That being said, I sat at my computer for literally hours looking up templates, sketch ideas, and creating the perfect Halloween playlist to listen to while carving said pumpkin.

I managed to stumble upon a cool website that provided me with a plethora or recipe’s involving pumpkins. More on that to come soon!

So I got to work! I chose to sketch my own template. It was a tough choice between Harry Potter or a Muffin, Harry Potter seemed to speak to more people.

A couple hours later the pumpkin was “de-gutted” and finishing touches were being applied.

Next up? Baking pumpkin seeds! I used butter, garlic salt and a little bit of salt and pepper!

This past weekend Laura’s mom Gail came to visit Boston, so Saturday I spent the day with them in Cambridge. But before Gail came to Boston I got visitor of my own. I’m fostering this cat for 2 weeks! Her name is Coraline!

Saturday we started out walking from Boston into Cambridge to Flour, a super cute and super delicious bakery.

We ended up in Harvard square for most of the day, I did another Harvard tour with them. I swear I can probably give one of those tours by myself I’ve been on it so many times.

After our tour we sat down for some girl talk over some margaritas!

Finally Will, Laura’s boyfriend met up with us to go to dinner. We went to Mr. Bartley’s Burgers, which has been featured on the food network and a few Boston movies. The burgers were exactly what we needed after a couple margaritas! We finished off the night going out for a friends birthday.

Sunday and Monday were homework and resting days for me. I’m still getting over a long drawn out cold so those days of rest were crucial!

Monday night I hosted a study group with Laura, Will and our two other friends Bri and Ryan. We ordered Pizza, had popcorn and discussed the lives of famous composers… that part was on the test. I’m so glad that in my last semester I have a class with some of my closest friends since first semester. It’s the best excuse for all of us to get together towards the end of senior year. – no pictures from the study session, things got super hectic and I was working the listening examples for the test on my computer.

I’m looking forward to another weekend to get more cover letters and job applications ready. Hope everyone’s having a nice week!

A Tourist Kind of Weekend

I survived the first week of class and the weather is really cooling down now! I bought a caramel crisp candle that does wonders for our apartment and the tree outside my window is already starting to change color…too soon?

I had a really fun weekend, my friend Alex from high school came to Boston to visit her cousin who attends Boston University and we all got together Friday and Saturday! Friday we did a lot of walking around and later we went to a bar-club place in Copley.

Saturday Alex and I took the T to Harvard and jumped into a tour group for an hour and learned A LOT about the History of Harvard University! I definitely recommend taking a tour! The weather was absolutely perfect so we stayed outside as much as possible soaking in some sunshine!

We accidentally walked right through a hemp fest in the Boston Commons, which was absolutely insane. It was great to spend a weekend with an old friend and catch up! We were basically the only ones from high school that went to colleges on the east coast. Alex goes to Seton Hall in New Jersey, a school my family is very familiar with….Cousin Tim.

Anyway, I hung out with some friends later and was in bed by 11:30 Saturday night.

Today’s homework and cleaning day!

Here are some other random things I did this week.

Baked a cake from scratch, added sprinkles and pink food dye.

Had a fire drill at the new apartment

Under The Pear Tree

It's fashion week in New York, and since I'm not there, they have this event that takes place in different cities called Fashion's Night Out, or FNO. Thursday September 8th was FNO and I'm sad to say that by the time I hit Newbury street most of the stores were closing. It was still nice to see all the people around and what everyone was wearing. I even received a compliment on my leather jacket, people were that nice and supportive!
After about 4 straight days of rain this week we finally had a nice day in Boston on Friday.
I dragged Laura out with me for a day of fun and sun. After much deliberation and complaining about having no money we finally decided on heading to the north end of Boston to explore the home of Paul Revere, and boy did it tickle my fancy.

His house is now a walk-through museum with staff in each room to answer questions, it was really nice.

After visiting Paul's house we did a lot of walking around. We spotted a farmers market nearby where I bought some produce for the week, we sat down at Quincy Market for a mid afternoon snack, walked around some more then called it a day at went home around 7pm.



School starts tomorrow, joy. Summer's over, guess I'll order that pumpkin spice latte now.

The Internet Cures Boredom

So far It's been a lazy vacation weekend and it's not even Sunday yet. Lots of relaxation, pajamas till 3 and constant snacking.

I baked some cinnamon bread Thursday and Saturday morning made an egg sunny side up for the first time!

A lot has been going on this past week. Last weekend it was warm enough to go to the pool and lay out, so that is just what we did!

Monday was my 21^st birthday, and to prepare, Sunday I baked my delicious Pistachio cake!

Sunday I also did something very very daring, I got a haircut!!!!

I cut all of it off and donated my ponytail to Locks Of Love!

Monday Shannon, Elliot and I went to dinner at the Gordon Ramsay at the London Hotel. It was so beautiful and a great place to have a lovely quiet dinner with good friends!

The semester is almost over, so I’ll be leaving LA soon. I have papers and packing to do within the next 10 or so days.

Like Kids In A Candy Store

Monday evening we went out to Roscoe’s which is famous for chicken and waffles. I’m not much of a chicken and waffles fan, but the waffles were delicious, AND the portion sizes were so crazy insane we didn’t know what to do with ourselves. But that’s not the exciting part of this blog post!

Saturday Shannon, Alex and I got park hopper tickets to Disneyland and California Adventure! We woke up before the sun, drove to Anaheim and spent 9 hours in the magical world Walt Disney invented! Since my birthday is coming up I decided going to Disney would be a good way to celebrate! It was so great to be back on Main street and hear the Disney music, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day! We were exhausted by the end, but definitely agreed that it was so worth it to go.

No Music, No Lights, Free Service!

Yikes!!

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while, I’ve been in the weirdest mood for the past couple days. Yesterday I woke up wanting to design a room and lately I’ve been pondering questions like “can the coffee burn?” and “where are all the bobby pins?” I'm literally losing my mind for no reason!

I sit here in Starbucks writing this blog post when I know there are other things I should be doing, like Writing my 7 page paper for sociology, reading and preparing a presentation for homework, or trying to figure out what classes I’m taking next semester. Being 20 is hard… correction, being almost 21 is hard.

Anyway, on with it…

Saturday Elliot and I had a very fun and time-consuming homework assignment for… you guessed it, Sociology!

We had to drive from one end of Sunset Blvd. (by the beach), all the way to East LA. There were good parts…. Oh and there were interesting parts… but mostly, we couldn’t believe how beautiful some of the neighborhoods, landscapes, and homes were in Bel Air, Palisades, and Beverly Hills

Our first stop was Palisades, mainly because there was a Starbucks there, and we needed our morning coffee. Unfortunately, minutes before we arrived in Palisades there was some sort of explosion at the electric building and most of the town lost power…. Upside, free coffee and scone, downside, everyone was closing up shop. Elliot and I decided to take a look around anyway, and I’m glad we did because we had quite an experience. We were just walking out of a cute cupcake shop when Elliot spotted an Escalade… not just an Escalade, but a Hybrid Escalade! We ooh’d and ahh’d for a moment then I said “well look at the guy inside the car, he’s smoking a cigar on the phone” …Then Elliot says “Uhhh Caity, that’s Adam Sandler”

HAAAAA to my amazement, it totally was. He then got out of the car, said Hi, and we had a small conversation as he was approaching the cupcake shop “It’s Cupcake time!!”

So it was a fun start to our day!

We then drove through various elaborate neighborhoods in Bel Air and Beverly Hills…

“I bet this one’s Meryl’s house” is all Elliot could say about every house we saw!

Next stop through the Sunset Strip, we had lunch at The Counter, you can “build/create” your own burger there! We talked with the waitress about our assignment and she was very helpful!

Last stop was in Echo Park, Elliot called it an up and coming neighborhood, and I don’t even know what I call it. It seemed a bit run down and graffiti-ed, it was primarily a Hispanic neighborhood with some signs in Spanish. It also had some really cool book shops, coffee houses and cool resale shops. Seems like an alright college hangout. I didn’t feel unsafe there, it just wasn’t Beverly Hills.

It took 4 hours to drive, observe and stop 3 times, and by the end Elliot and I were utterly exhausted but satisfied.

I wish there was a way you could see me right now, I’m drinking my coffee with two hands because last week my boss spilled coffee on her computer and it wasn’t pretty. Also, It must be said that I've totally been on a Shania Twain kick today!
